Voter turnout in Washington was largest in nation

Secretary of State Sam Reed certified the election results on Wednesday, and also shared an impressive number.

Voter turnout in Washington reached 81 percent -- the highest voter turnout nationwide.

Reed said they're still working on the final numbers, but he wanted to congratulate the people of the state of Washington.

Not only was voter turnout high because it was a presidential election year, but the race for governor and the hot ballot issues of same-sex marriage and marijuana legalization lured voters to polls.

Smart people live in the N.W.
Except for the republican posters on this site. They can't get over the fact that their party LOST! The sad thing is that they still don't have a clue as to why their beloved republicans didn't win in a landslide (read this it's me) it's because the republican party is unwilling to move ahead with what the voters of this country want. You neanderthal racist, homophobic conservative uptight anal retentive republicans are in the minority. There is not a chance in hell that you guys can come up with a candidate in the next 8 years that will even be recognized by any sane American.

    Not so smart.
The reason why the republicans can't believe Obama didn't get beat in a landslide is because that's what should of happened. When a CEO of a company puts his/her business 60% further in debt...that CEO gets fired. Obama FAILED this country on sooooo many fronts it's not funny. But because half this country is selfish, they voted for the guy that would give them what they want...no matter the cost! Gay marriage...I'm for it. but voting to keep Obama on the hopes of getting married over improving our economy and keeping us strong is selfish. Same goes for the potheads. Voting to keep him in because you want to get high is selfish. All those lazy people that think it's better to not work and live of the government voted to keep him in because a republican party would make people earn things. Immigration. I get they want to come here. This used to be the best country in the world. That's what they have been told most of their lives and it sucks where they live. So I get they want to be here and want their family and friends here so they vote to keep obama in because they think he will give them the best chance at letting folks in. but at what cost? The democratic party is only united in one thing...selfishness! And yes... the republicans won't win again ever unless they make a change. probably in immigration because most of those people are republicans waiting to happen. They work hard, believe in god and family and don't promote abortion. If the republicans open the gate to citizenship it is the democrats that will never win again. Because your policies fail and generally suck. Enjoy your free ride while it lasts and if you happen to be one of the democrats that work and pays taxes... I feel sorry for you. It must suck to be that one kid at the party that doesn't know he or she is being made fun of by all the other kids.

    Kudos to Washington, BUT....
ditto PDX Scotty http://oregonvotes.org/doc/history/nov62012/G12_Voter_Reg_Participation.pdf SOS just certified and released our results Dec. 5, so apparently Oregon not on radar yet. (Minn had been bragging on mid-70's% a few weeks ago as "highest" in nation.) Anyway, Northwest rocks!
