Police say a 7-year-old boy accidentally shot his 9-year-old sister in the leg Wednesday night at their home in Auburn.

According to police, the two might have been home alone when the boy grabbed a .22-caliber rifle from an older brother’s closet and started playing with it when the gun went off.

Detectives are looking at a variety of charges as they work the investigation. They could include charges against their parents for leaving the kids home alone and leaving an unsecured firearm in the home.

The girl was treated at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where she is expected to be OK.
