Woman injured as shots fired near light rail station

Oct 29, 2013, 9:19 AM | Updated: 10:22 am

Seattle police say a woman waiting with a small child on a light rail platform Monday evening was injured as gunfire erupted nearby.

Police report two vehicles, a Buick and black SUV, were stopped in the roadway at 7100 block of MLK Jr. Way South when someone began firing at the vehicles. The suspect was either on the sidewalk or in another vehicle nearby, police say.

The woman was hit by an unknown flying object. Police haven’t yet determined if it was broken glass debris, a bullet fragment or something else. Large glass panels at the light rail platform were shot out and shattered.

The woman was treated at the scene and released by medics. The child was not injured.

Police say both vehicles fled the scene. The Buick was found unoccupied at 39th Avenue South and South Graham Street with damage from the gunfire. The black SUV has not been found.

Occupants of all the vehicles remain at large. Seattle Police say the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or the Seattle Police Department.
