Convicted voyeur Steven Powell has been arrested and child pornography charges have been reinstated against him, Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist announced Monday.
Powell, 64, was released from prison earlier this year after serving 30 months for voyeurism after he was caught taking pictures and videos of two young neighbor girls through their bathroom window.
Powell is the father of Josh Powell, the man who killed his two young sons and himself in a 2012 explosion at his rented Graham home while under investigation for the disappearance of his wife, Susan Powell.
While Powell was charged with 14 counts of voyeurism for taking photos and videos of the neighbor girls in 2012, a judge dismissed child pornography charges because he found that the images did not constitute “sexually explicit conduct.” The decision was overturned this summer by the Washington Court of Appeals.
“We were always confident the child pornography charges were proper, and we are pleased the higher court agreed,” said Lindquist. “Mr. Powell should be held fully accountable for grossly violating the privacy of his young neighbors.”
Powell is scheduled to be arraigned at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Tacoma.
