Marshawn Lynch just didn’t want to go to White House, says mom

May 22, 2014, 8:48 AM | Updated: 9:28 am

Marshawn Lynch’s mom says he didn’t give her a specific reason for not joining the Seahawks on their trip to the White House to meet the president.

“He just said he didn’t want to go,” his mother, Delisa Lynch, tells The Seattle Times.

She did mention they were mourning the recent death of a family member, but she originally thought he’d be going on the White House visit anyway.

The president noted Lynch’s absence and said he’d been looking forward to chatting with Beast Mode regarding how he handles the press.

“I am sorry that Marshawn’s not here because I just wanted to say how much I admire his approach to the press,” Obama said. “I wanted to get some tips from him.”

Lynch’s reluctance to speak to the media and engage in the spotlight off the field became a national story during the week leading up to Super Bowl XLVIII.

The president was honoring the Seahawks for their first Super Bowl win. The Seahawks clinched their first Super Bowl victory in the history of the franchise in February by beating the Denver Broncos 43-8.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
