The gun allegedly used by a 19-year-old Kent man in a deadly shootout with Seattle officers last week belonged to the man’s 17-year-old sister, according to an affidavit obtained by The Seattle Times.

According to the affidavit, the man, identified as Damarius Butts, and his sister allegedly stole beer and snacks from a 7-Eleven on Thursday. Butts allegedly displayed a gun when confronted by the store’s clerk. The two were confronted by police and, after running, Butts allegedly fired at officers, who returned shots.
Butts was later found dead in the Federal Office Building at 909 First Ave.
The King County Medical Examiner determined Butts died from multiple gunshot wounds.
According to the affidavit, Butts’ sister told police she purchased the gun for $550, the Times reports. The female allegedly told police she gave her brother the gun because “she didn’t have it in her” to pull it on someone, according to the Times.
The female suspect is being held for investigation of first-degree robbery and third-degree assault.
A second 19-year-old male from Renton, who allegedly told police he knew of the theft plans but was unaware of the shooting, is being held for investigation of first-degree robbery.
Both suspects waived their rights to appear in court on Friday.
Three officers were shot during the incident that shut down blocks of downtown. Officer Hudson Kang, 30, is reportedly still at Harborview Medical Center recovering from his injuries. Elizabeth Kennedy, 42, was shot in the chest but saved by her Kevlar vest; she was treated and released the same day as the shooting. A third officer was “grazed” by a bullet, which wounded his hand.
