CenturyLink Field is known for being one of the loudest stadiums in the NFL, but what good is a reputation if you can’t prove it?

A Seahawks fan group has filed paperwork with the Guinness Book of World Records to break the record for “loudest crowd roar at a sports stadium,” according to a Seahawks blogger.

The noise record will attempt to be broken when the Seahawks host the San Francisco 49ers in the home opener on September 15.

The current record holder is the Turk Telecom Arena in Istanbul, Turkey. During a soccer match between Galatasaray SC and Fenerbahce SC, the crowd reached a decibel level of 131.76.

The Seahawks have documented an official mark of 112 decibels on their team website.

ESPN has rated CenturyLink as one of the toughest venues because of the 12th man fan crowd noise.

That’s by design.

Seahawks owner Paul Allen grew up as a University of Washington football fan and wanted the raucous atmosphere of Husky Stadium in his NFL stadium when it was built.

“Paul has such fond memories of Husky Stadium,” Architect Jon Niemuth told ESPN, noting that everything about the home of the Seahawks was “designed to be loud.”

“The sound is just down and dirty,” he says.
