Rats and other pests find places that will entail their survival needs of drink, food and shelter. Once they have found a place in your home and breed, they will be hard to eradicate and can spread diseases and destroy property. As Kevin of PestFighter says, “The best way to work on pest control Seattle, is to prevent them from getting into the house in the first place.” Here are the top 5 tips to control the pests around your home.

Food

Food is a primary attraction of pests. Discarded food should be kept with tight cover when placing in outdoor trashcan. Indoor trash should have a closed lid. Moist food should not be left in pet bowls. Open food cartoons should be placed on sealed containers and crumbs left open will attract pest invaders. Dirty dishes should not be left overnight and also the kitchen being a place of food will be neat in other to drive away mice from coming in. All rotten food and falling leaves outside should be removed to prevent the stay of rats in Seattle as well as other pests.

Water

Standing water is another problem source of pests in Seattle, and should be removed. You should also know that dampness creates a place for bugs. Any damp materials should be removed from the living environment. Leaky plumbing jobs should be fixed in order to avoid it as a source of water for rodents that come around.

Bedding

All storage box and trash that look like homes inviting pest should be removed. Piles of clothes and newspapers should not be left out in the open. People should also know that old and rotting wood will invite termites and ants. This can also increase the presence of carpenter ants as they look for a place to lay their larvae. For this reason, old wood should not be allowed to stay in any home.

Outside The Home

The outside of homes, especially in crawl space areas, should be checked for holes that allow bugs, rats, mice, raccoons and other rodents a safe and dry shelter. Plugging and repairing holes will keep the rodents out and prevent them from destroying your crawl space insulation. Vegetation should be kept at 18 inches from the foundation of any home. This is a good idea in the process of pest control that anyone can have.

Pesticides

If you are going to use pesticides, do so with caution and follow the manufacturer’s guidelines so that you do not damage the environment or totally eradicate a pest outside your home. This will bring complete safety to both the individual and the entire family as a whole. Kevin says, “There are many ways to move a pest to where it belongs outside and away from your home without killing the pest altogether.”
