Edmonds to crowd-source traffic calming solutions

If you live in Edmonds and have concerns about drivers speeding in your neighborhood, the city wants to know about it. Edmonds has allocated $35,000 to address residents’ speeding concerns and reduce cut-through traffic on streets through its Traffic Calming Program.

The only catch is, you have to fill out and submit the necessary paperwork yourself. Two documents are required: a “Citizen Action Request” and a “Neighborhood Petition Form.” The petition must include signatures from eight different neighborhood households.
After the deadline on February 9, 2018, the city will choose and prioritize qualifying projects. In the past, the Traffic Calming Program has paid for speed radar feedback signs, signage, and pavement markings. According to the city, alternative speeding solutions will also be considered.
A few suggestions for Edmonds:
- Roundabouts
- More trees
- Self-driving cars
- These fluorescent green plastic children
- Standing on the street and screaming into a bullhorn around the clock
- A slyly parked Ford Crown Victoria
