The Oak View Group has released updated information about the planned $600 million KeyArena remodel. The latest photos provide insight into how the venue will eventually look.

“It’s so exciting to give people a detailed look into what we’re developing and show exactly how we plan to celebrate the historic roots of the Seattle Center through a venue that will also provide the very best arena experience for fans,” said Francesca Leiweke-Bode, Oak View Group president.

The latest designs are from architectural firm Populous. The upgraded KeyArena will have a glass atrium along its south exterior, allowing passersby to peer in. The atrium will also serve as the main entry into KeyArena. A new pedestrian plaza will be built outside the atrium.

New KeyArena features

Skylights in the new Space Needle Club on the upper deck will offer views of the nearby iconic Seattle structure. Oak View Group also reports the arena bowl has been “combined with diverse hospitality environments and state-of-the-art video displays.”

“Open, inviting and simply unforgettable while respecting the landmark history; these are the principles that continue to drive our design of the renovations to the Arena at Seattle Center,” said Kurt Amundsen, Principal at Populous. “We are proud to be working with Oak View Group to re-define the arena as a world-class entertainment venue for the Northwest.”

The arena will host 17,000 seats for spectators. The latest designs also aim to keep the arena’s unique roof design.

The City of Seattle and the Oak View Group have submitted an application for a new NHL team. That application is pending. Renovations begin later this year. KeyArena is expected to reopen in time for the 2020-21 NHL season.
