A photo of Kate Steinle posted in Seattle was defaced.

Steinle was fatally shot in San Francisco while walking with her father and a friend along a pier. The gun was fired by Jose Ines Garcia Zarate sitting on a park bench. He was acquitted of manslaughter charges and instead found guilty of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The shooting has become an argument amid the national immigration debate. Zarate is an illegal immigrant who has frequently entered the United States. San Francisco is a sanctuary city.
