A fire burned through the roof of a concessions stand inside the Avista Stadium in Spokane Valley on Friday, the Spokane Valley Fire Department (SVFD) announced.

At approximately 2:55 a.m., SFVD and the City of Spokane Fire Department responded to reports of smoke and flames coming out of a building in the 600 block of N. Havana Street.

Spokane Valley fire causes significant damage to Avista Stadium

Fire crews arrived and found the fire burning through the roof of a concessions building within the stadium. The fire was quickly upgraded to a “working fire.”

Firefighters conducted an aggressive interior attack to battle the flames. Access challenges, paired with the metal roof partially collapsing, forced crews to withdraw and assume a defensive position.

SVFD mentioned that the combined efforts from both departments allowed for quick action in controlling the fire. The fire was contained to the concessions stand and did not spread toward nearby structures.

The building itself did sustain significant damage.

No injuries were reported as a result of the stadium fire. SVFD investigators remain on the scene to determine the cause of the fire.

The scene remains active, and crews are expected to be on site through the morning.
