Two vehicles inside a carport caught fire in South Hill over the weekend, damaging parts of the apartment building and totaling both vehicles, Central Pierce Fire and Rescue (CPFR) reported.

CPFR responded to the fire within seven minutes of the initial call to dispatch. Engine 72 found two vehicles engulfed in flames under a carport outside the apartment building.

Flames spread to South Hill apartment building

CPFR detailed that the flames were beginning to spread toward the exterior of the apartment building.

Spearheaded by a quick response from fire crews, the fire was under control within 10 minutes.

However, the two vehicles involved were deemed a complete loss, and the carport sustained significant heat damage.

The apartment building suffered damage to its exterior siding and windows, with minor smoke damage to the building’s interior.

One individual was evaluated for smoke inhalation at the scene. CPFR did not mention the health status of the individual assessed.

CPFR noted the department responded to approximately 440 emergency calls over the weekend, including the two vehicles on fire outside of the apartment building.
