Fire crews knocked down a two-alarm fire at a vacant commercial building in Kent late Wednesday night.

Crews arrived around 9:30 p.m. at a two-story building along South 266th Street, where thick smoke was pouring from the structure, Puget Sound Fire announced.

Two-alarm fire damages vacant Kent building

A one-alarm fire is the standard initial response, with a set number of crews and equipment dispatched. A two-alarm fire requires additional units for more serious situations.

Firefighters found major structural damage inside, including a burned-out stairway that forced crews to use ground ladders to reach the second floor.

The flames were brought under control in about 90 minutes, and no injuries were reported.

Officials say the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
