Expect major backups in Seattle for Monday Night Football

The Seattle Seahawks’ Monday Night Football game against the Detroit Lions could create quite the traffic nightmare.
Early afternoon street closures may hamper afternoon and evening commutes.
Here’s what to expect:
1. Around 1 p.m., police will be in SoDo and Pioneer Square to close streets and direct traffic around CenturyLink Field.
2. Kickoff is at 5:30 p.m. Keep in mind, people will be at work and then 67,000 spectators will be headed downtown.
3. The new I-405 express toll lanes will be active at 3 p.m. and prices will vary between $0.75 – $10.00

“Please consider travel and schedule alternatives as the interstates and city streets will be significantly impacted before and after the game,” said Norm Mah, spokesperson with the Seattle Department of Transportation.
KIRO Radio traffic reporter Chris Sullivan reports downtown could see congestion even earlier than some might expect. Tailgaters may very well head down to the stadium well before the larger group of fans swarms the area.
Departments within the City of Seattle should know what to expect from Monday’s game. The Sept. 3 preseason game against the Oakland Raiders gave officials at least an idea of what to expect on the roads. However, a prime time game against the Lions may prove to be a bigger headache for drivers.
“You can expect a nightmare of a drive,” Sullivan reported.
