It would be difficult to pick a better location for the U.S. Open than Chamber’s Bay in mid-June.

The south Puget Sound has a Mediterranean-like climate; dry and low humidity, according to University of Washington Professor Cliff Mass.

“You could hardly pick a more ideal venue…,” Mass wrote.

There is a low chance of thunderstorms or heavy rain, mild temperatures, and conditions that are much drier than “virtually anywhere in the eastern two-thirds of the U.S.” The wind factor is also “low to modest.”

The conditions at Chamber’s Bay has moderate temperatures, thanks to the Sound. The lower holes tend to be cooler and windier, with air coming off the water. The wind tends to pick up in late afternoon, Mass reports.

“The weather should be ideal on Wednesday and Thursday, reaching into the mid-70s,” he wrote.

Friday could be iffy, with cloudy conditions and showers expected in areas of Seattle. However, most of the rain should be in the north end of the city, Mass reports.

The weather is expected to improve over the weekend.
