Extra police officers will be out in force, again, to deter drivers from using bus lanes in downtown Seattle.

The Seattle Police department is focusing the extra enforcement along Howell Street, near 9th Avenue, during the Thursday afternoon commute.

A ticket for the offense runs $136, however, when officers previously patrolled the downtown bus lanes, they only gave out warnings. Education was the goal of enforcement efforts on Aug. 27.

While warnings were the only result of the last effort, the full $136 ticket will be issued this time around.

“Illegal use of Howell Street transit lanes can delay thousands of bus riders and has been the subject of complaints from transit riders and motorists alike,” the Seattle Police Department wrote on its blog.
