A 20-year-old active-duty Marine was arrested Wednesday after a 12-year-old girl reported that a man grabbed her while she was walking home from school in Silverdale, according to the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office.
The girl told investigators the incident happened Monday near Ridgetop Boulevard Northwest and Northwest Ambercrest Way.
She reported seeing a man who appeared to be filming her, then said he grabbed her by the shoulder and back and told her to come with him. The girl said she punched him in the shoulder, ran away, took a picture of him, and called her mother.
“The family reported the incident to the sheriff’s office. Deputies developed probable cause to locate a suspect, who was arrested Nov. 4,” sheriff’s office spokesperson Kevin McCarty said.
Marine held on $350,000 bail
The suspect, identified as 20-year-old Timothy Caldwell, appeared in court on charges of second-degree attempted kidnapping and assault. A judge ordered him held on $350,000 bail.
“During the course of the investigation, deputies were able to establish that the 20-year-old suspect is an active-duty Marine,” McCarty said. “He is based at Naval Base Kitsap.”
McCarty said the Navy and Marines have been in contact with detectives about the investigation.
