A 16-year-old boy was shot and killed when he answered the door at his family’s home in Seattle’s Rainier Beach neighborhood Friday night, according to police.

KIRO 7 TV reports that the medical examiner has identified the teen as Earl Estrella, and Seattle Public Schools confirmed that Estrella attended Interagency Academy, which is an alternative high school.

Witnesses told officers that the suspect knocked on the door of the home in the 9200 block of Waters Avenue South just before 11 p.m. Estrella answered it and was shot multiple times at the doorway. The suspect fled the area.

Estrella was declared dead at the scene after responding officers attempted life-saving measures.

Seattle homicide detectives are investigating the shooting and urge anyone with any information about the shooting or the suspect to call the Violent Crimes Tip Line: 206-233-5000. There is still no motive for Estrella’s killing, and it’s unclear if he was targeted. No suspect has been identified yet.
