Three lanes of southbound I-5 were closed Monday between N.E. 145th to N.E. 130th streets in Seattle due to buckled concrete. Further north in Shoreline, the Washington State Department of Transportation said two center lanes of northbound I-5 were also blocked near NE 195th St. for the same reason.

It took WSDOT crews the better part of the evening commute to return the freeway to normal.

Another panel on I-5 in Shoreline also buckled, this time near 155th on northbound I-5.

WSDOT reports concrete on I-90 is buckling due to the heat. The left two lanes were closed on eastbound I-90 about five miles east of North Bend.

KIRO 7 reports road temperatures can reach 120 degrees on extremely hot days like what the region saw on Monday.
