Forget those old, boring old dog names like Rover or Fido. When it comes to naming our four-legged friends in Seattle, Lucy tops the list.

The name is far and away the most popular canine moniker in the city known for more dogs than kids, according to a new analysis by The Seattle Times.

The research culled from Seattle Animal Shelter records finds one out of every 83 dogs around town bears the name. And it’s not just locally. Lucy is also the third most popular dog name around the country, according to Vetstreet.com.

Lucy is followed by Bella, Max, Charlie and Buddy as the top names around town.

Classic names are definitely on the outs in Seattle and across the country. While there are 540 licensed dogs named Lucy in the city, records show just five Rover’s and two Fido’s.

So what goes into a name? Breed seems to play a big part. The survey reveals Lucy is tops among Labrador Retrievers, Border Collies and Chihuahuas in Seattle. Bailey is most popular for Golden Retrievers, while Max tops the list for German Shepherds and Schnauzers.

The top dog names nationally are Max and Bella (Seattle doesn’t break out its numbers by gender), Buddy and Daisy, Charlie and Lucy, Rocky and Molly, and Cooper and Chloe.

Vetstreet.com credits popular movies and TV shows like Twilight and Modern Family for heavily influencing the names pet owners give their pooches.
