Update: 2:15 p.m. Sept. 12

The antisemitic activists managed to disrupt the meeting, according to a statement released on Instagram.

“Today, the UW Board of Regents was forced to end their meeting early after a group of peaceful protestors autonomously disrupted the meeting by chanting and refusing to leave once public comment ended, based on the Board’s decision to delay voting on the divestment proposal from israel until March. The protestors took over the board’s seats after they left, and established the people’s board which voted in favor of divestment, cutting ALL ties with Boeing, and pay raises to all workers at UW!!!!”

Original Story

University of Washington (UW) students are planning a disruptive event today on campus as part of their UW Divest for Palestine campaign. An internal email suggests student activists are knowingly sneaking non-students onto campus as part of their organizing efforts.

There is a UW Board of Regents meeting this morning on campus. It will include a public comment section and representatives from the UW Jewish community are slated to testify about antisemitism on campus.

But UW Divest for Palestine is organizing antisemitic activists to “confront the Board of Regents” at the meeting, demanding that they vote on their proposal to “divest from ‘israel.'” They do not believe in Israel’s right to exist, consistently describing it in writing as “israel” as a way to diminish the only Jewish state. And they’re hoping to use activists with potentially no connection to the UW to pressure the school into an antisemitic decision to divest.

Antisemites sneaking into campus buildings

Ahead of the meeting, UW Divest for Palestine organizers are meeting in the Art Build (Building) “where we will be creating signs for the action.” It’s at this location where outsiders may be getting onto campus, circumventing UW rules and providing potential security threats.

A student leader organizing a previous event at the Art Build has been sneaking people into the building for their activism. In an email to supporters, the student noted, “The building requires a Husky ID for entry so please come to the doors on the left side of the parking lot and we will let you in.”

Given the student activists planning to confront the Regents are meeting in the same location, it’s possible or even likely that some pushing for divestment aren’t even students.

While local media has claimed the efforts on campus since October 2023 to protest Israel’s war against Hamas as student-driven, it’s only part of the story. Outsiders have routinely organized with students and, in some cases, outside organizations have done the organizing to bring antisemitic activism on campus. In other words, non-students are influencing decisions that should be left to students and alums.
