Kevin Bleyer re-wrote the U.S. Constitution. Now he just
has to get it ratified.
The “Daily Show” writer-turned author joined 97.3 KIRO FM’s Ross &
Burbank Show to talk about his new book “Me the
People.”
When it came to his constitutional re-writes, what did he
really nail down?
“One thing I decided to do was kick Rhode Island out of
the Union,” Bleyer said. “It’s a big question as whether I
nailed it, but it felt really satisfying when I did that.”
Bleyer’s qualms with the East Coast state have little to
do with it’s present day issues. He said the cities,
people and values are lovely.
Rather, it has everything to do with how they behaved when
the original constitution was ratified in the 18th
century.
“Heel-draggers.” That’s how Bleyer refers to their
behavior. They didn’t send delegates to the constitutional
convention, and they were the last state to ratify the
constitution.
That’s why Bleyer also addressed Article 4 of the
constitution, which has to do with how the states get
along. He also wanted to add a ranking of the states for
that section. When one state doesn’t agree with another
state, they would have an opportunity to pull rank.
New York was ranked first on his list. Unfortunately,
Washington came in at 13.
Bleyer said he’s been having a good time in the Evergreen
State however, so maybe we can look for a move up his
rankings of states when the book comes out in paperback.
