KIRO Radio’s Dori Monson could have a new career in store as a speech-writer for President Trump.

After meeting with Russian President Vladmir Putin in Helsinki, Finland, Trump stated that he didn’t “see any reason why it would be” Russia that had meddled in the 2016 presidential election.

On Tuesday, however, Trump backtracked and claimed that he had misspoken — that he had, in fact, meant to say that he did believe that Russia had interfered in the election.

“The sentence should have been, ‘I don’t see any reason why it wouldn’t be Russia — sort of a double-negative,'” Trump said.

Dori could not believe the stumbling on the president’s part, calling it “beyond credulity” that Trump’s PR experts could not have come up with anything better than “ridiculously trying to flip-flop” on the previous day’s comments.

“What I find absolutely remarkable … is they’d had 27 hours to figure out, ‘How are we going to deal with this?’ And you supposedly have the best spin doctors working for the White House,” Dori said. “And in 27 hours, that’s the best you could come up with?”

Dori said that he had given the matter great thought, and had come up with a much better speech that he would have given if he were the commander-in-chief:

You know what? I believe our intelligence agencies. But I was standing right next to Putin, and we had just had a great two-hour conversation. When tensions are higher than they’ve ever been — including the Bay of Pigs — when tensions are higher between the U.S. and Russia than ever before, I’m not going to stand next to the man and call him a liar to his face because it would undo all of the great progress we had just made. I want to focus on how we’re going to ratchet down tensions. It would have just made things worse if I had stood next to him and called him a liar. I was clumsy in how I said it yesterday, because I didn’t want to insult him. But I’m telling you today, I trust U.S. intelligence. I want to work forward with Putin toward peace, toward nuclear reduction, working to put pressure on North Korea and China, working together collaboratively in Syria against ISIS. I blew it yesterday, but I blew it because I didn’t want to insult the guy that I just had a fantastic conversation with, and I think we could accomplish great things together.

Dori concluded at the end of his speech that he “would be a good president.”
