The man police say shot at two vehicles before killing himself while waiting for the Hood Canal Bridge to reopen is a suspect in a Renton murder.
A 38-year-old Bellevue woman was found dead in a Renton hotel room on Monday.
Police identified the suspect as 20-year-old Krishna Mahadevan-Prasad, whose last known residence was New Jersey.
While detectives were still trying to find Mahadevan-Prasad, state patrol notified Renton police that he was involved in a shooting at the Hood Canal Bridge on Tuesday morning in Jefferson County.
Mahadevan-Prasad allegedly fired upon two vehicles stopped at the Hood Canal Bridge, hitting one driver in the elbow and narrowly missing a father and his daughters, state troopers say.
The bridge was closed for maintenance at the time of the shooting, which occurred at 3:42 a.m.
According to Trooper Chelsea Hodgson, the man suspected of opening fire was in a vehicle parked between the other two stopped at the bridge.
The driver of the vehicle behind the shooter sustained a “glancing gunshot wound” to the elbow. He was sleeping at the time.
One bullet nearly hit the driver of the other vehicle, who was leaning toward the passenger seat at the time. The bullet went through the driver’s seat head rest. His 5- and 6-year-old daughters were asleep at the time, according to Trooper Hodgson.
According to the Renton Police Department, investigators are “concerned” that Mahadevan-Prasad may be responsible for other crimes. He was active duty military and his “travels are unknown.”
