At 10 p.m. Friday, northbound I-5 between the I-405 and SR 518 interchange and the Duwamish River Bridge will be reduced to two lanes.
Also closing will be on-ramps to northbound I-5 at Southcenter Boulevard, I-405 HOV only, and Interurban Ave.
All lanes will reopen Sunday at 11:59 p.m.
⚠️HAPPENING THIS WEEKEND⚠️

This comes as a result of an emergency expansion joint repair effort, after old expansion joint hardware on I-5 broke in October.
This replacement project will require two total weekends of lane reductions on northbound I-5 at the Duwamish River Bridge.
The first stage of repairs — happening this weekend — will replace metal on half the joint. The second, slated for sometime in February, will replace metal on the other half. This two-stage process allows WSDOT to keep two lanes of northbound I-5 open while critical work is still in progress.
WSDOT cites the impending three-week closure of SR 99 in Seattle as one of the driving factors for reducing lanes for construction right now.
“We need to be sure I-5 is in the best condition possible so it can handle all the extra traffic,” WSDOT said in a news release.
