Evergreen Forest Elementary School in Lacey went into lockdown after gunshots were heard in the area Tuesday morning.
Thurston County Sheriff’s deputies lifted the lockdown within an hour. Deputies, however, remain checking the surrounding area.
The North Thurston Public School District announced the temporary lockdown via Facebook around 9:42 a.m. Staff in the school’s playground reported the sound of gun fire in a nearby neighborhood.
Evergreen Forest Elementary is six miles from North Thurston High School where a teacher tackled a student gunman Monday morning.
