Add two more to the growing list of fires that police say are being purposefully set in West Seattle.
The Seattle Police Department said arson detectives are investigating what they believe to be two intentionally set fires in West Seattle early Saturday morning.
Police and fire officials were dispatched to California Avenue SW and SW Oregon Street at 2:30 a.m. for a report of a dumpster fire, which was successfully extinguished. While still on scene of the first arson, police received a 911 call for a second dumpster fire located a block away, along the 4300 block of SW Alaska Street. Police said firefighters and officers rushed to the second fire and brought it under control.
According to the SPD, witnesses saw a suspect exit the alley where the second fire occurred. Officers discovered surveillance photos and are now asking for the public’s help.
Witnesses described the suspect as a 20-year-old male with a slight build, wearing a red and gray sweatshirt.
Detectives do not believe these arsons are linked to six previously reported arsons in the area during the month of October.
Police offered a $10,000 award connected to the case involving the other six arsons.
