Elderly woman dies after being trapped under bus in Seattle

An elderly woman who was trapped underneath a King County Metro bus died Thursday afternoon in Seattle’s Northgate neighborhood.
Police shut down NE 100th Street between 1st and 3rd Avenues in Seattle during the investigation.
King County Metro closed the Northgate Transit Center.
The woman, believed to be her 90s, was pronounced dead at the scene near the Northgate Transit Center.
Investigators tested the bus driver and found no obvious signs of impairment. Q-13 reports the 58-year-old driver has been relieved of duty until Metro knows more about what happened. He has been a Metro employee since 1988, Q-13 reports.
Seattle firefighters were dispatched to the scene shortly after 3 p.m. with a report of a woman trapped underneath a bus. By 3:19 p.m. firefighters tweeted that they removed the elderly woman from under the bus and that medics were evaluating her. By 3:45 p.m. the Seattle Fire Department tweeted that the woman had died.
Collision investigators with the Seattle Police Department have responded.
