GOP cites Pete Carroll’s Super Bowl call in mail criticizing Democrats

Pete Carroll’s ill-fated decision to pass from the one-yard line in the Super Bowl has now transcended politics, with the National Republican Congressional Committee using it in an attack on its Democratic counterparts.
The NRCC has sent an email around the country taking shot at Democrats for already predicting they’ll take back the House of Representatives in 2016.

The email, obtained by KING 5, is titled “Is Pete Carroll calling the DCCC’s plays?”
The Republican committee called out for wrongly predicting Democrats would maintain or regain House control over the last three congressional elections.
“And now with the DCCC once again making ridiculous predictions we have to ask – just who is giving the advice to make these delusional predictions? Pete Carroll? Darrell Bevell? The Mad Hatter?” wrote NRCC press secretary Ian Prior.
Rep. Denny Heck (D-Wash.) is calling a personal foul on the play.
Heck, who chairs the the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s recruitment committee, sent a sharp rebuke at the NRCC, including Spokane-area Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers.
“I believe I speak for all the 12s out there, and I hope that includes my colleague Republican Caucus Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers, when I say that attacking Pete Carroll is way out of bounds, and we should throw the challenge flag. Go Hawks!” said Heck, who represents the 10th District in the South Puget Sound region.
McMorris-Rodgers is one of the highest-ranking members of the House Republican caucus.
But the NRCC isn’t the only one using Carroll’s call for their political posturing.
“Closing down the Department of Homeland Security is as crazy as the last play in last night’s Super Bowl,” said Sen. Robert Menendez, D-NJ, at a press conference Monday about efforts by Republicans to block funding for the Department of Homeland Security in a dispute over President Obama’s executive order protecting millions of undocumented immigrants from deportation, NJ.com reported.
