Snow once again proves to be a nemesis of I-90 drivers

Another day, another closure of mountain passes due to avalanche danger.
The Washington State Department of Transportation closed I-90 from North Bend (MP 34) to Ellensburg (MP 106) Thursday morning. This closure is a doozy.
I-90 over Snoqualmie Pass “will remain closed [Thursday] until conditions change,” WSDOT reported. Crews will be doing avalanche control work throughout the day.

The closure forced Summit at Snoqualmie to shut down.
Closed for day operations due to I-90 road closure. We'll check with @SnoqualmiePass mid-day and decide status of night skiing by 2pm.

Highway 2 east of Stevens Pass closed for avalanche danger as well.
The passes could receive as much as 8 inches of snow today, according to the National Weather Service. The snow level is around 6,000 feet, except at the surface in the passes.
The National Weather Service issued an avalanche warning for the Cascades Thursday morning. Avalanche danger will be high due to heavy snowfall followed by possible rain and strong winds. The warning remains in effect through 6 p.m. Thursday.
