A gasoline vendor was thrown 60 feet when a storage tank at an auto parts salvage yard exploded in Lakewood Thursday afternoon.

The West Pierce Fire Department says no one was injured at the Pick N Pull at 112th Street S. and Steele St. S. near McChord Field.

Large plumes of black smoke were seen pouring from the building.

The fire department says the man was pulling gas out of the storage tank, which is routine. The tank he had previously been connected to blew up after he disconnected. The man was able to move his truck away from the fire.

The cause of the explosion is under investigation.
