Anti-tax activist Tim Eyman says he is running for governor. Eyman made the announcement at the Sound Transit board meeting today, where his microphone was immediately cut off for violating the rules about campaigning during public comment.

KIRO-7-TV reports that earlier this month, Eyman seemed to dismiss the idea of running for office, saying doing so make you “Just one more snake in the snake pit.”

Seattle, King County file lawsuit against I-976

Voters approved I-976 with 53 percent in favor across Washington state. Eyman says he felt compelled to put his hat in the ring for next year’s governor’s race because he believes Seattle is monopolizing politics and funding in the state. As he spoke to reporters outside of the Sound Transit meeting, Eyman blasted the state for being too Seattle-centric:

“I’m running for governor in 2020,” he said. “I think people are just sick and tired of Seattle making every decision when it comes to public policy. We have a Seattle Sound Transit board, a Seattle-run legislature, a Seattle-run governor, decisions all being made out of Seattle.”

Tim Eyman investigated for theft of $70 Office Depot chair

He criticized the Seattle Mayor for suing to stop the $30 car tab initiative that was passed by voters.

“When Jenny Durkan announced her lawsuit she said, ‘We’re doing this lawsuit because we want to uphold the will of Seattle voters.’ Upholding the will of Seattle voters–what about all of the people outside of Seattle that ended up overwhelmingly voting for this initiative?”
