Train derails in south Seattle, snarling traffic

A freight train that came off the tracks in south Seattle backed up traffic for several miles Friday afternoon.
The train was crossing the tracks at E. Marginal Way S and Diagonal Ave. S when it somehow derailed.
The train remained upright, but it closed the northbound lanes briefly, backing up traffic on SR 99 to the First Avenue South bridge.
The train was cleared a short time later.
