KIRO Radio, KTTH react to 2020 State of the Union

Standing before a Congress and nation sharply divided by impeachment, President Donald Trump used his State of the Union address Tuesday to extol a “Great American Comeback” on his watch, three years after he took office decrying a land of “American carnage” under his predecessor.
The first president to run for reelection after being impeached, Trump received a raucous but divided response from Congress with Republicans in the House of Representatives chanting “Four More Years” while Democrats stood mute.
Reacting in real time to Tuesday night’s State of the Union address were hosts from both KIRO Radio and KTTH.
“This was a great #SOTU speech and I am willing to bet connects with the average American,” said KTTH’s Jason Rantz. “Nancy Pelosi may act classless and petty, but most of us approve of this great economy, support all law enforcement and troops and don’t want free healthcare of illegal immigrants.”
“People thought Iowa was a disaster for Dems. But tonight was cataclysmic for them,” agreed KIRO Radio’s Dori Monson. “SOTU speech — best I’ve ever heard. Dems behavior — the worst I’ve ever seen.”
Throughout the President’s address, one topic was notably absent.
“Didn’t mention impeachment — didn’t have to,” KIRO Radio’s Dave Ross pointed out. “The whole speech was a dare: ‘who would impeach, much less remove, a President who saves babies, reunites families, sends minority kids to the school of their choice, kills terrorists, deports criminal aliens, and has made you rich?'”
Tuesday concluded with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi ripping up a copy of the President’s address, putting an exclamation point on a politically charged night.
