Emergency road repairs are prompting the Washington State Department of Transportation to close all but one lane of southbound I-5 during the evening commute Monday.
WSDOT says maintenance crews will close one lane of southbound I-5 at the West Seattle Bridge around 5:30 p.m. for emergency expansion joint repairs, then close several others at 7 p.m.
The closure is expected to take approximately two hours.
Drivers heading south on I-5 should expect significant delays or take alternate routes such as SR 99 or Airport Way.
A WSDOT spokeswoman says a driver alerted them to a large piece of metal sticking out of the road. A broken expansion joint damaged multiple vehicles and caused massive delays in May.
