Seahawks LB Pierre-Louis fits the mold, but brings pet reptiles, humor to Seattle

The Seahawks have a knack for finding diamonds in the rough. They find players deep in the draft that other teams have overlooked, like K.J. Wright and Super Bowl MVP Malcolm Smith.

The Hawks hope another linebacker found hiding in the fourth round of this year’s draft will continue the tradition.

If there was a mold for Seattle linebackers, rookie Kevin Pierre-Louis looks like he was poured into it. Slightly smaller than the average NFL linebacker, but fast, great in coverage and with a big motor.

Seattle is hoping the pick out of Boston College will push veterans like Wright, Smith and Bobby Wagner to get better while working his way into the rotation.

“These guys know multiple positions,” Pierre-Louis said. “They’re all athletic. They’re all fast. They’re just hard working horses.”

Pierre-Louis is just trying to soak up as much as he can.

While he studies his playbook and works on his craft, he’s also waiting to be reunited with his pets, which are still at his home on the East Coast.

“I have a Colombian red-tailed boa, a bearded dragon, (and) a sulcata tortoise. I’m really into reptiles,” he said. “I’ve always been the type to try to be un-stereotypical and like things other people don’t like […] I had a rose-haired tarantula, but when I was training for the combine, surprisingly, I couldn’t find someone to take care of it for me, so I had to give her back.”

He likes lizards, snakes and big spiders, and he has a sense of humor. It’s not a good combination for teammates or coaches.

“I’m going to bring in the snake for Coach Norton and see how he likes that,” he laughed.

Pierre-Louis is currently listed on the second team defense for the final preseason game Thursday in Oakland.
