Black Lives Matter Seattle-King County is hosting a Black-led Wellness Weekend on Friday, June 26, and Saturday, June 27, as a time for Black people to come together to focus on health and healing.

“It’s an opportunity for us to care for ourselves and those around us; to receive and provide culturally-responsive services, resources, opportunities, and connection; and to support the needs of community,” reads BLM’s website.

Black Collective Voice forms in Seattle to educate, empower the people

On Friday, community organizations will be offering free health and wellness services at Seattle Central College from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. At Judkins Park, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., is an all Black healing space presented by Black Out Healing Collective.

There will also be a number of healing events over the weekend centered on Black queer and trans people in honor of Pride Month.

Jimi Hendrix Park will host an all-Black healing space from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday.

“Taking B(l)ack Pride” to lift the voices, narrative, and contributions of Black queer and trans folks is scheduled for Saturday at Jefferson Park from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

BLMSKC is calling for the entire community’s support via donations to the Black-Led Community Investment Fund. All gifts made this weekend will be reinvested in Black community wellness, health, education, and basic needs.

Donations will go to:

“‘Black Lives Matter’ means caring for our physical, mental, emotional, and social health in ways we define. Caring for ourselves and others is an act of resistance.”

Thousands participate in Black Lives Matter silent march

Learn more about each community group listed above, and find a full list of this weekend’s healing events on BLMSKC’s website here. Organizers ask that anyone attending the events wear appropriate personal protective equipment and try to keep a safe distance from others.
