A suspect in an early Thursday morning shooting in Lynnwood is dead, after crashing a stolen vehicle while fleeing law enforcement.

Suspects fired at least 40 shots into a Lynnwood apartment complex shortly before 1 a.m. Thursday. Snohomish County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene, where suspects were seen driving away in a stolen Honda CRV.

They tried to pull the car over, but the suspect sped up and a chase began. The chase made its way onto the southbound lanes of I-5, before the suspect exited the freeway at 90 miles an hour.

The suspect’s vehicle then crossed into the oncoming lane of traffic and deputies gave up the chase. Shortly after that, the suspect crashed near 36th Avenue Northeast and Northeast 145th Street. When deputies arrived at the scene of the crash the suspect was dead, killed by the impact of the crash.

Deputies are still looking for another person who fled from the crashed vehicle on foot, and believe that a second vehicle may have also been involved in the shooting. K-9 units were unable pick up the scent.

There’s no word on a motive. Several occupied apartments were struck by bullets, although there were no reported injuries.
