Local GOP chair says ‘don’t blame us’ for shutdown

Most polls suggest the American public blames this partial government shutdown on the Republican Party.
Susan Hutchison is the Republican Party Chair in Washington state. She said that blame is misplaced.
“They’re acting on behalf of the American people, who are overwhelmingly against Obamacare,” Hutchison said. “They’re getting the phone calls in their offices, not from people begging them to keep the government open, but instead begging them to do something about Obamacare.”
Hutchison said the blame for this shutdown falls on the president and the Democrats in the Senate.
“I hear a Congressman from New York lamenting that there’s a closed sign on the Statue of Liberty. Really?” she questioned. “What about the 14 million people out of work and have been out of work?”
The state GOP chair believes this is an opportunity for her party.
“One of the things that we really need to do as Republicans is let the American people know how much we are working on their behalf to fix Obamacare,” she said.
Hutchison said she’s proud of the House Republicans for standing their ground and fighting for the American people.
