Boeing is looking for a new factory site in South Carolina.

The Puget Sound Business Journal puts the size of the new building at 220,000 square feet with room to expand to 600,000 square feet.

Scott Hamilton, Managing Director with the Leeham Company, compares the new site to Boeing’s building in Renton where it assembles wings for the 737.

“That building is one million square feet, so you’re talking about starting off at (about) 20 percent of the size and going up to 60 percent of the size,” says Hamilton. “So it would be a substantial building.”

The Journal reports that the site would be within 20 miles of Boeing’s existing factory in North Charleston, SC.

A Boeing spokeswoman confirms the company sought proposals for land purchase sites on May 9.
