Who are these street-side strangers telling you to be happy?

Your toes in warm sand. Fluffy puppies. The smell of coffee in the morning…OK, snap out of it. Instead of these happy images, you have to go to work, take the dog to the vet, and get the kids to school. Also, did you notice you have a coffee stain on your shirt?
Sometimes during our hectic day, we need to be reminded about happiness and that’s where the Happiness Sprinkling Project steps in.
Volunteers from “The Happiness Sprinkling Project” will be out on the streets of Mukilteo this week giving drivers a little smile by holding up encouraging messages: “You Are A Good Parent,” “Trust Yourself,” “You Rock!” and other fun stuff.
You’ll see the signs in Mukilteo on Friday, Feb. 12 from 2:15-4 p.m. at the intersection of Mukilteo Speedway and Paine Field Way. Just in time for shift change at Boeing.
So why are these strangers standing on street corners with signs that say things like, “You Are Amazing?”
According to project organizers, “Every day people gather to picket injustice, mourn tragedy, rally for all sorts of causes, and to get drunk and party. Why not gather to sneak surprise ordinary citizens with a little cheer? Kind words can help heal this world.”
You can volunteer to be a sign holder by simply showing up on Feb. 12 at 2 p.m. on the corner of Paine Field Boulevard and Mukilteo Speedway. Wear a yellow shirt. No registration or training required, just show up in yellow and they will hand you a fun sign.
The Happiness Sprinkling Project was founded by a group from The Center For Happiness in Anacortes, Wash. The signs are now traveling all over the United States and will be back in Lynnwood this March.
