Seattle Children’s making big changes in Federal Way

Aug 11, 2015, 9:58 PM | Updated: May 8, 2016, 9:59 pm

Seattle Children’s Hospital’s current clinic in Federal Way is set to close. But a larger clinic will take its place.

Seattle Children’s Hospital announced the opening of its newest regional clinic, Seattle Children’s South Clinic, to give families in South King and Pierce counties better access to more pediatric specialty clinicians and services as well as an after-hours urgent care facility.

The 32,000-square-foot free-standing facility, located at 34920 Enchanted Parkway South, replaces the Seattle Children’s Federal Way facility, which closes on Aug. 12.

What are they building?

The new clinic will house more than 15 pediatric specialty clinics, including cardiology, dermatology, gastroenterology, orthopedics, and sports medicine. The clinic will also include an evening/weekend/holiday urgent care clinic, imaging, a sports therapy gym, and occupational, physical and speech therapy services.

The new facility will open Aug. 18.

“A great deal of thought went into making this clinic right for the kids who need us,” said Katherine Flynn, director of Seattle Children’s South Clinic. “Families in South King and Pierce counties will have access to even more of the services and extraordinary specialists available at our main campus, as well as after-hours urgent care, in a convenient location. I’m excited to welcome patients to this new facility.”

The new clinic is part of Seattle Children’s regional clinic network, which also includes sites in Bellevue, Everett, Mill Creek, Olympia, Tri-Cities, and Wenatchee.

The Federal Way Mirror reports the new clinic will have 26 exam rooms and four treatment spaces for a capacity of 204, not including a therapy gym. Though it won’t be ready for the grand opening, the clinic will also have a children’s play room that is anticipated to be finished in a few months.

The clinic was once a Circuit City, the Puget Sound Business Journal reports. It is the first time Seattle Children’s has built a clinic out of a non-medical building.

A community open house is scheduled for Sept. 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The announcement of a new clinic follows proposed plans for a new research institute in Seattle’s Denny Triangle. Recent plans call for a 13-story building focused on “transformative therapies.”
