Fire forces residents out of apartment complex in Seattle’s Eastlake neighborhood

Apr 30, 2013, 6:57 AM | Updated: 7:00 am

Eight people were forced out of their apartments after fire damaged a building in Seattle’s Eastlake neighborhood.

Heavy smoke and flames shot out of the two-story building on Yale Ave. around midnight.

“We were able to make our way inside. We also cut some holes in the roof to ventilate all that smoke that was building up inside the building,” says Kyle Moore with Seattle Fire.

It took about 15 minutes for fire crews to completely extinguish all of the flames.

Moore says the fire appeared to be contained to one unit, but the fire did get inside the walls and caused some heavy smoke damage throughout the complex.

The Red Cross is helping the four men and four women who lived there find someplace to stay.

A report by KIRO Radio’s Val Stouffer.
