Filming on Alaskan Way Viaduct slows Seattle traffic

Drivers got their first taste of film-related traffic Thursday morning on the Alaskan Way Viaduct.
A movie shoot began around 9 a.m.

According to information from the City of Seattle, the scheduled filming will lead to slowdowns on the viaduct May 19-26. The city says filming will not be during peak commute hours – 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Traffic will never be completely stopped, however, there will be times when traffic is “slowed.” Crews will use a technique called a “rolling slowdown” during filming on the viaduct, according to the city.
Along with the viaduct, film crews will also be seen in Pioneer Square.
Uniformed police officers will be hired to manage traffic.
“We are thrilled to host another major film project in Seattle,” Kate Becker, the Director of Film + Music + Special Events said. “The project will have a significant economic impact on the city and create high-paying jobs for our local cast and crew. The competition for film production is fierce, and we are thrilled that our reputation as a film-friendly city helped to secure this project, which will be seen by audiences in theaters around the world.”
Though no official information has been released, bloggers believe film crews are shooting footage for “Fifty Shades Darker,” the sequel to “50 Shades of Grey.”
