A Tacoma animal shelter is looking for homes for dogs, cats, bunnies, guinea pigs and other critters.

Dog Aging Project co-directed by UW researchers needs participants

Communications manager Lindsey Heaney isn’t sure why, but she tells The News Tribune that the Humane Society for Tacoma and Pierce County received more than 650 animals in June alone, and over 170 so far in July.

“So right now we are at maximum capacity for the number of dogs, and cats, and critters that we have here available for adoption,” Heaney said.

The shelter is now looking for people to adopt pets and foster others until their forever homes can be found.

“They bring a lot of love to a home,” Heaney said.

The shelter, located at 2608 Center Street, has adoption hours from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. every day. Dog adoption fees range between $80 to $500, while cat adoption fees are between $30 to $135. Adoption fees can vary by age, size, breed, medical condition, or length of time at the shelter.
