More snow, strong winds possible Tuesday night

Some parts of Western Washington could see some more snow Tuesday night after the region got its first dusting of the season. And high wind warnings are out for Southwest Washington as another strong storm lines up off the Washington Coast.

National Weather Service Meteorologist Arthur Gaebel says the snow level could drop to near 300 feet Tuesday night and Wednesday morning with the possibility of a few inches along the Hood Canal area and just a flurry or two elsewhere, but mostly rain.

Forecasters also expect heavy snow in the mountains in the next couple of days. Accumulations of 1 to 3 feet are likely in the Cascades by Thursday morning, making driving through the passes difficult.

KING 5’s Keisha Burns said the steadiest snow fall observed on Tuesday was in the south Sound area, and north of Everett. A winter weather advisory remains in effect for parts of the Puget Sound area through noon.

Several school districts in the area issued late starts, with a few closing for the day. Check latest school closures and alerts

Slick roads were also a challenge for drivers. The Washington State Patrol issued warnings to slow down and increase following distance for icy conditions. They report they responded to 30 accidents in Thurston and Pierce County Tuesday morning.

In Eastern Washington, the National Weather Service said scattered snow showers Tuesday will be followed by heavy snow Wednesday and Thursday. Accumulations of 4 to 8 inches are expected north of Highway 2.

In the Spokane area, 3 to 5 inches are possible by Wednesday night with another 1 to 3 inches possible Thursday.
