Meteor lights up the sky over Seattle early Friday morning

Jun 10, 2016, 11:04 AM | Updated: 1:26 pm

It’s not known exactly where it fell, but what is known is that early morning commuters caught a glimpse of a meteor shooting across the Northwest sky on Friday.

The American Meteor Society took in reports from across the Northwest region, from Sooke, British Columbia all the way down to Roseberg, Ore. Reports of a fireball in the sky started coming in around 4:30 a.m. There are more than 20 reports.

One person who saw the fireball was KIRO Radio’s Dave Ross, who was on his way in to host Seattle’s Morning News.

“What I saw this morning was a flash in the sky at 4:35 as I was on Mercer Island,” Dave said. “I thought it was fireworks, but it was too bright to be fireworks.”

“It left a tail — I thought it must be a meteorite, but then you would hear a big explosion,” he said. “It was a bright white streak through the sky with a yellowish tail.”
