Olympia tavern fight leaves one dead, one wounded

One man is dead after a stabbing at a downtown Olympia tavern early Tuesday.

Officers were dispatched to McCoy’s Tavern at about 1:30 a.m. where they found two people with stab wounds. One person died at the tavern and the other is recovering at Saint Peter Hospital.

Police caught up with a man carrying a knife several blocks away. When he refused to give up, they took him down with a blast from a Taser. The 34-year-old Olympia man is in police custody.

Detectives are trying to sort out what prompted the deadly confrontation.
