Jon Ryan is enjoying his time off from social media.
The Seahawks punter told The Seattle Times that since deleting his Twitter and Instagram accounts he feels like he “just got out of a bad relationship,” and “now I’m free.”

Ryan had a heated exchange with someone over Instagram, after posting about the mass shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando. One commenter wrote: “Where in the bible does it say it’s ok to be (sic) homo sexual?” Ryan responded, “… please unfollow me. You’re a terrible human being … please stop cheering for the Seahawks. We don’t want piece of (expletive) fans like you. Thanks.”
The Times reports that it was Ryan’s decision to shut down the accounts. If the Seahawks organization asked him to take down the accounts, Ryan told the Times he would have kept them up.
Ryan would do it all over again, too. He told the Times his “only regret” is not responding to the comments “more harshly.”
The Seahawks punter’s decision to criticize insensitive comments have received support, including — and not surprisingly — from his fiancée.
I’ve been telling Jon about all the amazing tweets I’ve been getting today thanking him for not being afraid to stand for what is right. ❤️
